Aviation No Tie Downs is YouTube series created to share interesting stories of our shared passions for the people, the business, and the adventure of aviation. Hosted by Lightspeed Executive Vice President and instrument rated private pilot, Teresa De Mers, the series will educate, entertain, and inspire as you meet fascinating people that have shaped modern life through aviation, and travel the world to experience the love of aviation through the eyes of an international community.
The premier episode is titled “A Lifetime of Flying, Leading, and Serving with Major General Hank Canterbury.” In this episode Hank tells funny and poignant stories of his 30 year career in the US Air Force and as a family man. You can also meet Hank on Wednesday morning at 9:30 in the Lightspeed tent.

Barry Hancock, Pilot Maker Advanced Flight Academy
Tuesday, July 23 at 11–noon
Barry Hancock is the founder/Chief Pilot at Pilot Maker Advanced Flight Academy in Utah. Active on the air show circuit performing surface level aerobatics in the T-6, he’s also an active aerobatics competitor with the IAC flying an Extra 300. He is the head of all formation training for the Commemorative Air Force, serves on the Safety and Standards Committee, as well as a Check Pilot for the Stearman and T-6, and also is a FAA Safety Team Representative.
Major General Hank Canterbury
Wednesday July 24 at 9:30 a.m.
A decorated USAF pilot, General Canterbury was in the first class to graduate from the USAF academy in 1959. He was also the first Air Force Academy graduate to fly with the Air Force Thunderbirds, flying two years as Number 4, the Slot pilot. He went on to graduate from the AF Fighter Weapons School and fly 376 combat missions in two combat tours of Vietnam. During his AF career, he logged 5000 hours in F-100s, F105s, F-4s, F-16s, F-15s, and A-10s.
He has held multiple command positions in fighter units from squadron level to Numbered Air Level. Notably, he was wing commander at MacDill and Luke Air Force bases, ultimately serving as Vice Commander of the USAF 9th Air Force, Tactical Air Command. Since retiring from the USAF in 1989, Hank has logged another 15,000 hours as a civilian pilot primarily as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFII) training others on the Beechcraft airframes and coaching world class aerobatic competitors. Still actively flying today, he owns two aircraft and participates in regional aerobatic competitions himself.

Josh Flowers, Aviation 101

Josh Flowers started flying as soon as he could at age 13. Over the years he’s built a YouTube channel delivering aviation videos to over 100,000 subscribers, inspiring future and current pilots worldwide.
Kyle Fowler, aerobatic pilot
Wednesday, July 24 at 1–2pm
Kyle Fowler obtained his Private Pilot’s License at age 21 with Eric Hansen of Team Rocket as his flight instructor. He completed his Commercial Pilot’s License and Commercial Multi IFR Rating in 2015. He performs a thrilling routine in a yellow 1986 Rutan Long-EZ homebuilt, a plane known more as a sleek homebuilt commuter aircraft than as an aerobatic one.
EAA Ray Scholarship winners

This year, the Lightspeed Aviation Foundation is recognizing the accomplishments of young aviators who are EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship recipients by awarding a Lightspeed Zulu 3 headset to each of these 90 recipients on the path to successfully completing flight training. Jolie is a contributor for AOPA’s monthly blog titled AOPA Opinion Leaders. She founded Mooney Ambassadors, an all-volunteer service club that promotes general aviation. Jolie co-founded Mooney Girls, which seeks to increase the numbers of female pilots, mechanics and aircraft owners through advocacy, outreach and education. Jolie also teaches Right Seat Ready! Companion Safety Seminar and Exit the Holding Pattern: Achieve your Aviation Goals, a fast paced, multi-media presentation that explores human factors in decision-making, motivation, and follow-through.
Aaron Fitzgerald, 2018 Red Bull Helicopter Aerobatics team

Aaron Fitzgerald has been a FAA Part 135 pilot continuously since 1999. A former paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, he owns an aerial production, helicopter services, and photography company. Aaron will be performing with the Flying Bulls Wednesday–Saturday.
